Plough shares are the cutting tip of a mouldboard plough, and the most frequently replaced wear part. Picking the wrong share - wrong steel, wrong thickness, wrong bolt pattern - means poor penetration or wasted downtime. Here is a short buying guide.
European (Kverneland, Lemken, Kuhn, Pottinger, Vogel and Noot) use Type 26 / Type 36 pattern. North-American (John Deere, CaseIH, Massey Ferguson) use Type 41. Asian / utility use Type 23 / Type 26. Match the share pattern to your plough body.
Reversible shares (two cutting edges) last twice as long. When one edge wears, unbolt and flip. Fixed shares are cheaper but single-use. Reversible is the standard for commercial farming.
65Mn spring steel with hardened edge (40-50 HRC) is the standard, affordable option. Boron steel 30MnB5 is the premium grade, holds an edge longer in abrasive / rocky soils, costs 30-50% more.
8 / 10 / 12 mm. Heavier ploughs on stony ground need 12 mm for impact resistance. Lighter ploughs in soft soil can run 8 mm.
3-hole pattern is most common. Confirm hole spacing against your existing share before bulk order. Mismatch means unusable.
